Incorporated in 2000, the Lexington History Museum, Inc. opened in the former Fayette County Courthouse in October 2003 in a partnership with the Lexington Fayette Urban County Government.

The old Fayette County Courthouse in Lexington was completed about 1898. It was the fifth courthouse, the fourth on the site, and is now home to the Lexington History Museum.
