This is Villa Spada, the seat of the Embassy of Ireland to the Holy See.

The villa was built for Vincenzo Nobili by the architect Francesco Barratta. The name Villa Spada first surfaced on a map in 1748, when it was owned by prince Giuseppe Spada Varalli.

During the defence of the Roman Republic, it first became Villa Corsini, then Savorelli, then it was held by the Battalion of Lombardian Sharpshooters, commanded by Colonel Luciano Manara, who was recovering here after getting wounded and getting transferred to Trinità dei Pellegrini Hospital. It was also Giuseppe Garibaldi's headquarters.

During that time it was badly damaged by cannon fire and gunshots. It was later reconstructed according to the original designs.
