Red Banks Church is owned and maintained by the Pitt County Historical Society. The building is currently used for Historical Society Meetings, Weddings and other events, a Dinner on the Grounds is held each Spring. There is also a Civil War Trails marker on the site. The church congregation was founded in 1758 according to the Historical Society sign on the site. The church building was burned on December 30, 1863 by Union Col. Joseph M. McChesney with detachments form his command, the 1st North Carolina Volunteers (U.S.), the 12th New York Calvary and 23rd New York Artillery Battery. The Church was rebuilt after the war and remodeled in 1893. Red Banks Church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
