The first installation in this hill go back to Longobard period, but in1163 the family Attoni start to build up the castle that become a fortification for all the Middle Age. During the century XVII and XVIII the city state (municipality) of Fabriano imposed a heavy taxes to all the castles in the surroundings, this fact together with the difficult condition of life in this mountain and the poor quality of farming confirmed the decline of the castle.
Now the Municipality of Fabriano is restoring the castle, the end of the working is expected for summer 2007.
The castle is famous for a living crib during the Christmas period and a cine festival in Augustus
