Built between 1876 and 1884, this church was turned into a planetarium during the Soviet era, and Latvians still often refer to it as the planetārijs. They ask that all 'brothers and sisters' donate to the reconstruction of the interior of the building which was destroyed by the Soviets so that comrades might look to the heavens to spot Sputnik in place of God.
