From www.listasafnreykjavikur.is:

The Asmundur Sveinsson Sculpture Museum is dedicated to the works of the sculptor Asmundur Sveinsson (1893-1982).

The Museum is housed in a unique building that was designed and built mostly by the artist himself from 1942-1950. It housed both the studio of the artist and his home. The ideas for the forms come from the Mediterranian countries, the domed houses of the Arabic tradition and the pyramids of Egypt. Sveinsson later constructed a crescent-shaped building behind the house, intended to serve both as a studio and an exhibition hall,as the artist wanted to make his works accessible to the public.A sculpture garden surrounds the Museum, adorned by almost thirty of the artist´s sculptures.

Asmundur Sveinsson donated the house and his collection to the City of Reykjavik after his day. The Museum dedicated to his memory was inaugurated in 1983.

The main house and the crescent-shaped building have now been connected with an addition, opened in 1991 and designed by the architect Manfred Vilhjalmsson.
