The world's highest bridge was opened in China

The Beipanjiang Bridge over the Beipan River connects the Chinese provinces of Kuejczou and Yunnan. After building the trip from Liupanshui to Xuianwei was shortened from five hours to two hours. The span of the bridge, 1341 meters long, is located 564 meters above the level of the river flowing under it.

Works on the building lasted 5 years and were put into use on December 29, 2016. The construction cost amounted to 146.7 million dollars.

Beipanjiang is the highest bridge when it comes to altitude on which the road is suspended (in this case it is a four-lane roadway). However, when it comes to the highest bridge measured by the height of its own structure, and not the distance from the ground, here invariably the leader remains Millau Viaduct in France, 343 meters high. This is due to the fact that the Beipanjiang pillars are located on the slopes of the valley.

The height of the Beipanjiang Bridge itself from the base of the pillar to the top of the pylon is 269 meters.
