The new longest bridge in the world
Last week, the longest bridge in the world was put into operation: Qingdao Haiwan Bridge. The bridge, 42.4 km long, is located in China and connects the city of Qingdao with the suburbs of Huangdao. Supported by 5,200 pillars and having 6 lanes, the bridge was designed by Shandong Gausu Group. Built in 4 years, the building cost 5.5 billion pounds.
Over 10,000 workers worked simultaneously on two opposite ends of the bridge, they joined in the middle just a few days before the end of the work.
Over 450,000 were used for the construction tonnes of steel and over 2.3 million cubic meters of cement.
Previous record holder in the category of the longest bridges Lake Pontchatrain Causeway having length 38.4 km was dethroned by 4 kilometers longer Qingdao Haiwan Bridge.
