Facts, informations and history of The White House

The official residence of the President of the United States for almost 200 years. All presidents were there, except George Washington - the first president who chose the White House project and pointed out where he would stand.

In the building there are: 132 rooms, 32 bathrooms, 412 doors, 147 windows, 28 fireplaces, seven stair descents, 3 elevators, a cinema, a bowling alley and a room pool. The property also has a tennis court and a jogging track.

The main rooms are: the Blue Room, the China Room, the Diplomatic Reception Room, the East Room, the Green Room, the Library, the Map Room, the Red Room, the State Dining Room, Vermeil Room, Yellow Oval Room.

The State Dining Room can accommodate 140 guests.

In September 1994, Frank Corder crashed a stolen plane on the southern lawn of the estate. A month later, Francisco Duran opened fire in the building by shooting a rifle, no one was injured. In May 1995 Leland Modjeski climbed through a fence with a gun, he was shot on the lawn. On February 7, 2000, Robert Pickett was shot in the knee by a secret agent after refusing to put down his weapon and aiming at the White House.

In August 2001, the White House is restored. 40 renovation projects are completed. Corrupted entrances and falling columns are repaired. The building is repainted in "whispering white".

For a long time the residence has been known for the ghosts appearing there. The most popular is the spirit of President Abraham Lincoln, seen several times near his former bedroom. President Harrison's voice can be heard in the attic. Sometimes the ghosts of President Andrew Jackson and first ladies Abigail Adams and Dolly Madison are seen. Seeing the spirit of a black cat in the basement precedes national tragedies. The same is with the spirit of the cat in the basement The Capitol Building .

The White House is the only presidential residence that is open to society for free.

The building has six floors. At the turn of the 40-50s, at the request of President Truman, a thorough modification was made, two additional floors were added under the building, and a further floor was added to the attic, where the private rooms of the president and his family are now.

To paint a building from outside, you need 570 gallons of paint.

" I pray that Heaven will send the best blessings on THIS HOME and everything they live in. That honest and wise people will always rule under this roof. " - President John Adams

" Our nation was new, gaining symbols that would define it ... These walls carry the history of America ... History tells us that when the designers debated the final design of the house, the stonecutters laid stone foundations broader than four feet. Like the founders of our nation, these people built a monument for freedom, and they wanted it for everyone. "- President William Jefferson Clinton
