Facts, informations and history of Leaning Tower of Pisa

The Leaning Tower is essentially a campanile, i.e. a cathedral belfry, part of a complex consisting of a cathedral, a bell tower, a baptistery and a cemetery.

The tower is 55 m high and is more than 4 meters deviated from the vertical because there is a gradual sliding of the ground on which the tower was erected. At the beginning of the 20th century deviation from the vertical was 4.3 m, currently it is 4.6 m.

The building was built on a circle plan. It has eight floors, together with a bell drum. The six middle floors are surrounded by openwork galleys, which are probably an expression of the influence of Byzantine or Muslim architecture. The testimony of Muslim influence is the outer borders of red and white marble.

The basement of the cathedral is adorned with a blind arcade gallery from outside, and on the graceful front facade you can see openwork arcade galleries rising up to the top. At the intersection of the naves, a beautiful dome was later added.

Galileusz reportedly used the Crooked Tower to one of his experiences, dropping various objects from the top.

Myśle, że zadużo się o niej mówi skoro jest zwykłą dzwonnicą z małym błędem architektonicznym.
