Jin Mao Building

Facts, informations and history of Jin Mao Building

The building was completed on August 28, 1998 - a lucky date because eight is a lucky number for the Chinese.

At the time of its construction, it was the tallest building in China and the 4th largest in the world.

It was built to withstand the very strong winds that blow in Shanghai, even reaching speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour.

Jin Mao Building has 88 floors. The skyscraper has a parking lot with 993 spaces, offices occupy floors 3 to 50, and the remaining 38 top floors with 555 rooms are occupied by the five-star Grand Hyatt Hotel.

The section below 350 meters is unevenly divided into 12 segments (with 4 segments added for a total of 16), one on top of the other, each segment is 1/8 shorter than the lower segment on which it is stacked, and the cross-section of these sections gradually decreases as the tower rises. The first section above the ground has 16 levels; all 16 sections have a total of 88 levels.

There are 4 additional levels or sections above 350 meters, each 5 meters high, forming the base of the spire, the top of which is at 370 meters. The spire and its supporting structure raise the building by 50 meters to a height that is 420.5 meters.

The main investor is the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC).

All office spaces in the building are without columns, the gross height of each floor is 4 meters and the net height is 2.7 meters.

The exterior curtain walls of the skyscraper are made of glass and stainless steel, interspersed with an intricate truss cladding made of numerous aluminum alloy tubes.

The building so designed is able to withstand earthquakes of up to 7 on the Richter scale and typhoons of up to 200 km/h.

byłem tam dwukrotnie. Niestety, smog ogranicza wszelkie doznania za dnia - polecam wizyty późnym wieczorem. Polecam restaurację na 87 piętrze (można tam wjechać za DARMO, zamiast tracić 50 złotych)
