A stunning building designed by William Van Alen. The previous shareholder Van Alena, H. Craig Severance, was commissioned to design the world's tallest building for Bank Manhattan on Wall Street. The record was kept only a few minutes. Van Allen hid the spire of his skyscraper inside the building and as soon as Severance's building was completed reaching a height of 285.5 meters, Van Alen pushed the spire through the roof and distanced the rival reaching 318.83 m building height (77 floors). However, the Chrysler Building was a record holder for only a few months - in 1931 it was almost until the end of the sixties Empire State Building .

For building a skyscraper, 20,961 tons of steel, 391 881 rivets, 3 826 000 bricks, 446 000 roof panels, 794,000 stone blocks were used.
